FDA approves fast acting opioid tablet as hospital option
The FDA cleared a potent under-the-tongue opioid tablet from AcelRx for hospital use to replace IV painkillers in supervised settings. Critics fear abuse, a boxed warning will apply, and opponents warn of overdose risk. DoD funded testing due to battlefield pain needs. The pill, sufenentan-based, could cost 50 to 60 dollars per tablet and is not for home use.
