Allendale Elementary Wins National Let It Grow Grant
Allendale Elementary School earned a national Let It Grow Contest prize among 30 000 entries for a $1 000 agricultural grant and Nutrients for Life Foundation prize pack. Discovery Education and Nutrients for Life Foundation announced six nationwide winners providing more than $10 000 in prizes as part of From the Ground Up soil science education.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center offers Eco Day Camps for ages 7-10, Explorer Camps for 10-13, and Voyageur Camps for 13-15 with day and some overnight sessions. Bus transportation from SIU Arena is free. no shuttle for overnight sessions. Registration options include online forms, email, fax, or phone. partnerships extend to Girl Scout camps with swimming, canoeing, archery, rock climbing, and high ropes.

Soldier visits class after basic training
South Dylan Brown, recently finishing Basic Training for the Nation Guard, visited Mrs. Sanders's first grade class at South Elementary School. While in training, student Blaine Hawkins wrote to him. Brown returned home and visited Blaine's class, where students enjoyed hearing about his training and seeing his uniform.
