Carolyn Harness a Mount Carmel High School junior won the 2016 DAR Christopher Columbus Essay Contest for the second year running. Her piece titled Columbus and Lind bergh A Journey Across the Atlantic compares navigation eras, examines preparations and the Orteig Prize, and credits perseverance and drive in two historic explorers.

Allendale School Board approved the 2015-16 amended budget showing a balanced plan with revenue of 1 311 472 and expenditures of 1 311 435. The district hired Terry Harper for the 2015-16 school audit and named Bowser as Authorized IMRF Agent for 2016-17. The 2016-17 handbook and risk management program were adopted, Britt Shephard was hired as district bookkeeper, Brad Seaton’s interim superintendent contract extended six months, and fourth graders may join a team sport in 2016-17 only if participation is deemed lacking by the Superintendent.
