Sawyer elected to Illinois Judges Association Board
Retired Second Circuit Judge Stephen G. Sawyer of Mount Carmel was elected to the IJA Board of Directors at the June 3 meeting in Chicago. Sawyer, a 22 year judge, will serve a three year term. The IJA has about 1,250 active and retired Illinois judges and aids members with education and court operations information to the public.

Champaign County State's Attorney will not file charges against Bryton Mellott of Urbana after an Independence Day flag burning protest. She ruled the act constitutionally protected free speech. Police had become aware of threats against Mellott and his employer Wal-Mart after a weekend Facebook post.
