Mount Carmel to buy Hadley Building for cleanup plan
Mount Carmel city council approved purchasing the Hadley Building and adjacent vacant lot for 4640 dollars. The plan calls for demolishing the dilapidated building with funds from the new TIF to improve downtown. Project costs include 50k to 60k for demolition and 46k to replace the pool liner.

Lawsuit Filed Over Oil Lease Damages in White County
Landowners Anita Cosby and Karen Robinson sue William R. Becker and Becker Oil Inc. in White County Circuit Court alleging negligent operation of an oil lease on a 38 acre tract. Plaintiffs claim contamination of surface and groundwater, hazardous substance exposure, nuisance, trespass, and seek damages plus medical monitoring and a receiver for future operations. The defendants deny liability and the case remains under investigation. Attorney William Easton Jr. invites information from informants.

Road districts take funding hits in Wabash County
Mount Carmel Wabash County road districts face a $60,812 funding cut due to a state budget impasse while an additional $59,500 from Springfield is not renewed. A 10 ton limit on oil and chip roads was enacted though striped highways remain allowed. Amendments to four bridge project agreements were approved. Three new members join the Armstrong Cemetery Board. County tax collection stands at 97 percent with about $337,000 from 360 delinquent parcels, including former Wabash Mine holdings. tax sale set for Feb 19. County Treasurer notes $138,062.56 still owed by Illinois.
