Prospects for corn use from ethanol production
The WASDE forecast cuts ethanol use by 50 million bushels in the December report. Todd Hubbs of the University of Illinois notes ethanol demand lags last year and would require stronger gasoline consumption or higher exports to beat the projection. Domestic ethanol output has softened, with monthly production around 1.05 million barrels daily, and prices and policy remain uncertain aiding a cautious 2019 outlook.
