A veteran tobacco auctioneer with 47 years in the trade, he earned a reputation as one of the best to handle tobacco piles. Born September 28, 1854 near Asheville, he moved to Mount Airy from Danville, Virginia 22 years ago. He expressed optimism about President Roosevelt's crop control plan before his health declined.

Lacy Norman Held on Reported Incident Charges
Lacy Norman a 56 year old Surry county farmer from Lambsburg near the NC VA line was jailed in Mount Airy on charges tied to reported incidents against his two daughters aged 11 and 14. The family said the first incident occurred three weeks ago with a last incident Monday. Health officer Dr Franklin found lacerations on both girls after examination. Norman waived a Wednesday hearing and was moved to Surry county jail for safekeeping. He has a history of previous arrest and is married to his third wife Miss May Haynes with seven children at home.
