News Notes announce a two week art workshop by Abbe Rose Cox at Rockford Street School starting September 20. Classes include portrait and figure painting 9 to 12, landscape 1 to 4, and watercolor 7 to 10 with a total cost of 50 dollars or 5 dollars per lesson. Surry County plans a tunnel under old U S 52 at East Surry High near Pilot Mountain to connect the school with the adjacent playground and baseball facilities. Superintendent Charlies C. Graham says the $50,000 project is the only safe route for students to reach the athletic area, and it will be fully lighted on completion.

The $450000 project features brick wings, fire safety, air conditioning and handicap accessibility.
