The Greater Mount Airy Agricultural Fair starts Monday September 17 at Veterans Memorial Park and runs through Saturday night. Three Men Rescued From Main Street Cafe Fire
Three men were rescued from a grease fire at the Main Street Cafe early Tuesday about 5 am. Fire Chief J Ed Brannock and volunteers removed Shermen Grubbs and Ramsey Gunnell from smoke filled areas while Joe Dobson was found behind the building and assisted out semi conscious. They were treated at Martin Memorial Hospital and released with no injuries. Damages were estimated at 1500 dollars.

Bill Stanley Qualifies For Ford 500 Club Honors
Ford Motor Company Charlotte Branch reports Bill T. Stanley of Granite City Motor Company earned national Ford 500 Club membership for a second year. Stanley qualified in July and achieved the annual goal in October 1940, among the first in this area and about 1200 nationwide.
