Baby Injured In Auto Accident Near Mount
Linda Carol Arrington nine months old, daughter of Mrs Mil dred Arrington of 157 Durham Street, was taken to Martin Memorial Hospital after lacerations to the scalp when her head struck the windshield in an auto crash. Mrs Arrington suffered minor cuts and bruises. The family was traveling to Claudeville Virginia to visit relatives when the accident occurred about eight miles from Mount.

National Guard Returns From Encampment
The Surry County National Guard unit returned Sunday from a summer encampment at Port Jackson 8C. The 120 Infantry Regiment earned the best all around regiment honor at Fort Jackson. The two weeks included rifle firing bazooka firing 60 caloring and rifle grenades with bivouac, plus softball and parades before three governors.

Forsyth and Stokes counties rejected proposals for state controlled ABC stores in a bitter county wide liquor referendum. Turnout reached a record 27,759 with 15,734 voting against and 12,036 for. Winston Salem precincts favored wet stores while rural areas stayed dry. In Stokes County 2,194 voted for ABC stores and 3,106 against across 18 of 21 precincts. Officials reported no polling incidents.

Local Stores Closed For Labor Day Observance
Local stores banks and government offices will close Monday September 5 to observe Labor Day. Some retailers will reopen on Thursday September 8 or later, with limited hours.
One Hundred Take Part In Fishing Rodeo At Mount Airy
One hundred boys aged 6 to 17 joined the second American National Better Fishing Rodeo at William Merritt's pond near Mount Airy. The event concluded a weekly series begun last May with 25 to 30 youths per trip and was supported by Merritt, the Mount Airy Police Department, Juvenile Court, and civic groups. Roy Money, 17, won first and Stewart Nunn, 6, won second. both received casting outfits. The boys caught 411 fish and enjoyed food and drinks as part of the day.
