A stiff wind fanned a forest fire on the Blue Ridge east of Cove land Orchard, seen from Mount Airy. About 200 acres burned, mostly on land owned by Mrs. Joe Willis. Early reports of homes and several families left homeless were later corrected. The fire did not endanger any residences.

The groom, son of Mr and Mrs R A Jarvis, attended Duke University and works for Southern Public Utilities. They plan a bridal trip and will live with Postmaster Sparger on Rockford Street.

Trustees announce Mountain Park Junior College will close after Wednesday classes due to inability to raise funds. Ed Cox Remanded With No Bond After Preliminary Hearing
Ed Cox was remanded to Dobson jail after a Monday preliminary hearing before Judge Llewellyn on a murder charge in the Harrison Ashburn case near this city. Escape Arrestee Shot While Fleeing Jail Break
Chas. Lowry, serving six months in the county jail, was wounded in both legs when deputy Bud Callahan fired to stop him from throwing rocks during an escape attempt. Lowry and two others had pried bars with razor blades and fled. a jail yard dog alerted staff, guiding officers to Lowry on the Dobson road toward Mount Airy where a shot struck him in the leg.
