Mr and Mrs Bob Connolly received the 10000th local telephone in Mount Airy Cornelius Drive as James Shaw and Zeb Vernon of Central Telephone Co installed it. Bid Opens on US 52 Four Lane Extension to Pilot Mountain
The State Highway Commission opened bids Tuesday for a six mile US 52 segment from Mount Airy to Pilot Mountain. Troy Smith Construction Co. of Mount Airy submitted the apparent low bid of 2 450 327 to build a four lane road linking with the existing highway. Bids will be tabulated and rechecked before contracts are awarded. the project has an estimated 20 month completion window.
