Nurses Aides End Sixty Hour Course
Twenty local women graduate from a sixty hour Nurse Aides course sponsored by Surry Community College. Classes met on Monday Wednesday and Friday evenings at Martin Memorial School of Nursing with eight hour hospital shifts at Northern Surry Hospital. Certificates were awarded by Mrs Pearl Boyd and speakers urged continued education in health care. Several graduates were placed on the hospital's active aide list.

Theft Probed in Transmission Heist Near Mount Airy
Officers investigated the theft and recovery of a T-Ten B-W transmission valued at $350. Thad Junior Mayes, 19, of route 5 Mount Airy, jailed on stolen property charges, transferred to Dobson county jail, posted bond and released pending hearing. A 15-year-old Cana Virginia youth also arrested for breaking and entering related to the theft and released to his mother for juvenile authorities review.
