The Post Office Department invites competitive bids to improve or construct a building to house postal operations at Toast. Drug Store Entered on Main Street
Thieves broke into Hollingsworth Drug Store on Main Street sometime Tuesday night or early Wednesday. Ned Belton discovered the entry at 4 am when opening. Two cash registers were forced open and about $200 was taken. Entry gained by forcing a window at the top of the building. Police probe clubs for leads.

Housing Units Slated in Mount Airy Bid Notice
Mount Airy Housing Authority invites bids for 110 low rent housing units on 28.1 acres formerly owned by James I Banner on the south side of town. Bids due Dec 19 at 2 pm. Phase one targets 90 units for families and 20 for elderly plus a community building. A second phase adds 17 units on Virginia Street with initial work by April 1 and completion by October next year.
