Funeral planned for Raleigh T. Hawks 46 of Lowgap
Raleigh T. Hawks died Wednesday at Northern Surry Hospital from a heart attack. Funeral arrangements were in complete yesterday. He was born in Surry County to Richard and Stetiila Gaiyean Hawks and was a member of Roaring Gap Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife Naomi Brooks Hawks two daughters two sons his father six sisters and three brothers. The body was carried to the home yesterday from Moody Funeral Home.

Mount Airy's annual Christmas parade sponsored by the merchants association will roll down Main Street at 10 a.m. on Saturday November 27 with grand marshal Congressman Wilmer Mizell. Local dignitaries include Mayor Maynard Beamer Fire Chief Bill Woodruff Sheriff Jim Taylor and chamber and merchants association officials. Fifty units ten bands and groups such as Charlotte Drum and Bugle Corps Guilford Pipes and Drums plus Scout groups and two churches will participate in a festive downtown procession honoring the season.
