The semi annual Law Officers Training School began in Mount Airy with opening remarks by W H Sumner and a 12 day clinic. Sessions alternate between City Hall and Reeves YMCA drawing 18 25 officers from Pilot Mountain Elkin Dobson and Galax Va with experts from state and federal agencies teaching Traffic Arrests Weapons Law and defensive tactics.

Moir W Belton retired fireman laid to rest in Mount Airy
The funeral for Moir Wilson Belton 65 of 1650 Main St Mount Airy was held at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. D S McCarty and Rev J A Crews officiating. Belton died Friday at his home after years of ill health. He served as a volunteer and regular fireman with Mount Airy Fire Department and later as Oakdale Cemetery superintendent. He was survived by his wife Nora Pack four daughters son two sisters fourteen grandchildren a great grandchild and other relatives. Burial was in Oakdale Cemetery.

Anderson Named to Southern Seminary Association Officers
Melvin B. Anderson, minister of education at Mount Airy First Baptist Church, was elected one of six officers of the Southern Seminary Association. His term began after the association met in Wilmington during the North Carolina Baptist Convention annual session, with Anderson in charge of student recruitment for Southern Seminary, a new post created this year.

Westfield Youth Dies Suddenly In Westfield
Clinton Wesler Parker 12, of route 2 Westfield died at Danbury Hospital after a brief illness. He was a Francisco School seventh grader, member of the Francisco Presbyterian Church, Pioneers class president, and Boy Scout Troop 421. Funeral 2 PM today at Francisco Presbyterian Church. Burial at church cemetery. Survived by parents Vicki and David Parker and brother, plus grandparents in Charlotte and Greenstreet. Funeral home will transfer the body to the church.

Two Are Charged In Sunday Wreck
Mount Airy police report two drivers charged with reckless driving after a late Sunday collision on Rockford Street near Haymore Street. Joseph Herman Harrson, 34, of Ararat, backed from a driveway into Rockford Street in a 1957 Ford. Emilie Celeen Soloman, 34, of Mount Airy, driving a 10638 Ford, northbound collided. Seven passengers were in Harrson’s car but no serious injuries occurred.

Businessman Hartman Dies of Heart Attack at Home
Harvey Phaon Hartman 49 of 249 East Foplar Street Mount Airy died suddenly at his home about 4 o'clock yesterday morning from an apparent heart attack. He owned P W Sales Company and previously managed Charles Department Store in Mount Airy. Born in Fullerton Pennsylvania he was a son of Harvey P Hartman and Murnie Frewderck Hartman. He belonged to Central Methodist Church and served on its Board of Stewards. He was a Mason and member of Granite Lodge 322 A F and A M and the Surry Shrine Club. He was married to Doris Weiser Hartman and survived by daughter Donnalee, UNC student, his parents, one brother Earl man of Fullerton, Pa., and sisters Ruth Wildstein and Mrs Axel Nielsen.
