Mob Lynches Negro Suspect After Wild Cairo Riot
In Cairo Illinois a mob hanged Will James after a deadly pursuit. The rope broke and gunfire killed the prisoner as thousands watched. James confessed implicating Arthur Alexander before the mob burned his body and dragged it through the streets. Sheriff Davis fled with the suspect and later requested state troops.
