Surry Sheriff Guilty Tap Case Sentencing Sets 18 Months
Sheriff James Taylor of Surry County was found guilty in U S Middle District Court Winston Salem of illegally tapping a Mount Airy phone. Judge Eugene Gordon suspended the term for three years and placed Taylor on probation under the Attorney General. The case arose from tapping Alene's Beauty Shop on Market Street.

Korean Boy Reunion Highlights 18 Years Later in Mount Airy
Penny Hollingsworth hosts Kim Chu Won, a Korean youth helped by two Surry County GIs in 1954, now 33, during a surprise visit. The former 712th railroad battalion member recalled giving about 100 dollars to Kim, who later completed middle school and learned chess sets. They toured N. C. Granite and reconnected with warm affection.
