An intensive three day Red Cross drive in Mount Airy raised 653 memberships by Thursday noon, with J D Sargent Granite Co giving 105 and Martin Memorial Hospital among contributors. Dr Howard Rondthaler urged support at a luncheon. county workers totalled 653 in three days, near the 1200 goal, drive to November 30. The drive office is in the Central Telephone and Electric Co building on Main Street.

Missionary From China to Fill First Baptist Pulpit
Dr. R. T. Bryan, a longtime China missionary and North Carolina native born in 1855, will preach at both services at First Baptist Church this Sunday. War Memorial Dedication Draws Record Crowds in Dobson
A vast Armistice Day gathering in Surry County witnessed the unveiling of the World War Soldiers Memorial in Dobson at three o'clock. Ex-Governor J. C. B. Ehringhaus delivered the main address as Mrs. Alma McCollum unveiled the 12 foot granite shaft amid taps by the Winston-Salem American Legion band. The ceremony recalled a 1922 campaign to raise funds, with Union Hill, Bryan township, leading contributions. The project lists over 950 veterans, with corrections sought for omissions, and the event featured remarks by Judge W. F. Carter and other dignitaries including Senator J. H. Folger.

Ed Cox Seeks Parole From State Prison
Raleigh parole agents recently reviewed the 1933 34 Ed Cox murder case in Surry County. Cox, 35, was sentenced to 25 to 30 years by Judge Felix Alley after a sanity hearing found him sane. Parole consideration follows his five plus years in the Raleigh prison.

Cattle from a large area sold well at the stock exchange auction last Wednesday with top hogs at 7.00 and 5.70 to 6.00 for 250 to 300 pound cattle. Cows sold up to 11.00 with other grades at 10.80 9.90 and 9.00. Beef cattle climbed to 9.50 for cutters, 8.00 for seconds, and 3.60 for third grade. Milk cows fetched 35 to 60 dollars in Mount Airy on November 15.

Raids Net Much Liquor During Week
Officers and Federal Revenue agents raided a submarine type still near the Surry Patrick line and seized 600 gallons of liquor.
