Five local residents attended the Morganton luncheon for the Birth Detects Evaluation Center at Western North Carolina Medical Center Diagnostics Building. The state operated center serves 1 western NC county, including Surry, with support from March of Dimes and National Foundation. Foundation Director Named at Raleigh Meeting
W Howard Hardy of Siloam was named director of the C Agricultural Foundation during a Raleigh meeting. Former Pastor Gets Promotion in National Guard
Chaplain Robert C. Pooley Jr. of Rome Georgia has been promoted to lieutenant colonel in the 116th Military Airlift Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard. In civilian life he is executive secretary of the Cherokee Presbytery with headquarters in Rome. A former pastor of Flat Rock Presbyterian Church he has served as chaplain for twelve years. During World War I he was chaplain aboard a troop transport ship. The Pooleys have four children.

Phillips Initiated Into ECC Phi Sigma Vi Fraternity
