Saddles Stolen From Mount Airy Barn
Eight saddles valued at about 2500 dollars were taken from Jim Hazel’s horse barn on Alfred Mill Road during the night Wednesday. Police say entry was through an unlocked window. six western type and two English saddles were stolen. Detective D R Armstrong led the investigation.

Reward Offered for Raleigh Officer Slaying
Raleigh police officer William B. Holland Jr. was found shot dead at his home. Gov. Jim Holshouser announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the killing. Holland, 26, a four year veteran, had recently been assigned as a narcotics informant.
