Weekend police blotter shows 22 arrests amid bad weather
The local police headquarters logged 22 arrests over the past weekend, about half the usual. Nine were jailed by police, six by deputies, and seven by state troopers, with eight auto violations, five liquor infractions, and nine miscellaneous offenses noted. Only three drunken driving cases appeared among auto violations.
Turner Killed In Auto Crash Near Statesville
Turner Datridge Turner 28 of Spartanburg South Carolina died Saturday when his wife’s car skidded on a rain slick US 21 four miles north of Statesville, crashing into a utility pole. His wife Gaynelle Hamlin Turner 19 was not seriously injured. He was born in Surry County to Rev Walter and Ruth Johnson Turner and worked for Young Stone Co. Funeral held at Salem Baptist Church near Dobson. Burial followed at the church cemetery. Survived by wife, parents, and sister Mrs Donald Rumley of Greensboro.

Four judging teams started three day site visits for the Northwest North Carolina Development Association event. Beulah, State Road, Dobson and Elidora communities are assessed in Large Rural, Suburban Borough, Small Towns and Small Rural categories with $4200 in prizes awarded at the December 5 banquet in Elkin.

Kiwanis Pancake Jamboree At North Surry
Mount Airy Kiwanis volunteers host a two day pancake jamboree at North Surry High School to raise funds for school projects. Friday 5 8 p.m. and Saturday 6 9 a.m. expect hundreds of attendees with pancakes jam juice sausage milk coffee and butter. Proceeds feed into the town budget for 1969 70. The meeting also covers town budget timing parking changes and water rates for out of town users.

State Queen To Grace Parade In Mount Airy 1968
