New Jailor Now On Job In Surry County
Perry Spainhour was named jailor to replace Richard Dr. Riggs who left Wednesday. Mrs Spainhour will serve as matron at the jail. The new jailor has served as a fee deputy in Siloam township under Sheriff Jim Taylor and is a farmer and carpenter.

Retired Teacher Eugenia Roper Dies in Mount Airy
Miss Eugenia Roper 76 of 157 Orchard Street Mount Airy died Tuesday night at Northern Surry Hospital after years of declining health. A native of Williamsburg County she taught 42 years in Mount Airy schools including four as North Main Street principal. She was a member of the NC Education Association and Wesleyan Service Guild. Burial at Oakdale Cemetery. Surviving sister Mrs. Fred Thomas of Orangeburg.

Timmons Trial Opens in Dobson Murder Case
The trial of Jack F. Tim mons for the December 1967 Mount Airy shooting of Turnimiore began yesterday in Surry Superior Court. A jury was drawn and the trial continued through the afternoon. Tim mons was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.
