Five Hurt In Wreck On Highway Fifty Two
A car chased by a highway patrolman crashed a mile south of King on Highway 52 at 9 30 p m Saturday injuring five people. Driver Claude Roland Marshall 26 of Westfield led the pursuit at 85 to 90 mph before colliding with Rev George Tucker’s car. Edsel Johnson a passenger in Marshall s car survived. The extent of injuries was not immediately known and Marshall faced charges including drunken driving reckless driving and speeding.

Firemen Save Home on Hay Street Sunday
Mount Airy firemen answered a 9 30 Sunday alarm saving the home of Mr and Mrs Wilbur Hiatt on Hay Street. Firemen found fire under the fireplace and tore up the hearth to extinguish it. The house belonged to Ralph Ogles, a former Mount Airy resident.

Carroll County deputies and federal officers destroyed an illegal whiskey distilling outfit in Cana Virginia near the North Carolina line.
