Veterans Memorial Park to rise north of Mount Airy
The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars plan a joint venture to form the Vet Memorial Park on the Taylor Park property north of Mount Airy. The 36 acre site will host a swimming pool, playgrounds, sports fields, and a hall with a committee to oversee the project. They have raised 15000 dollars and aim to open next spring with broad community support. An all volunteer board includes five Legion and five VFW members. Contributions can be sent to Veterans Memorial Park Mount Airy NC or Moody Funeral Home.

Sheriff Patterson Indicted In Shootings After Raid
Sheriff Sam Patterson faces an assault with a deadly weapon indictment in Carroll County for a gunshot incident during a liquor still raid near the state line. Clay Golden, struck in the thigh, is hospitalized and sought a warrant against Patterson. Golden claims the shooting occurred in Virginia and the case proceeds to Hillsville circuit court. David Clark Acquitted In Wreck Case
David Clark 19 year old North Carolina State College student and Eddie Hines faced trial after a June 15 automobile crash near Rocky Mount that killed Fay Hall of Columbia. The jury acquitted Clark citing insufficient evidence. Hines remained seriously injured with Clark.

The remains of Miss Minnie Doss age 53 who died in Morganton were brought to Surry Monday at 2 p m for funeral services conducted by Reverends L M Burrus Delmar Hodges and Woodrow Jones. She is survived by her father Houston Doss two sisters Mrs Silas Smith and Mrs Henry Moser and one brother Oscar Doss. Interment followed in the church graveyard.
