Severely Injured Man Hit Crossing From Work
Virgil Lineback aged 61 of Highland Park was struck by a car driven by Roscoe Childress of White Plains while crossing the road after leaving a furniture factory. He suffered a fractured leg two broken ribs and other bruises and was taken to Martin hospital with the prognosis uncertain. No arrests have been made and the collision is considered unavoidable.

Death of Mr. Mitchell Lowe at Lowgap
Mitchell Lowe died Monday night at his Lowgap home from a leg infection. He was about 45, twice married with several children surviving. Treated at Galax Hospital, the disease progressed despite care. His remains were interred at Lowgap on Tuesday.

The city will gain a revised motor mail timetable within ten days to Winston Salem improving service for local businesses. Mail from here at 11 a.m. will wait until 5 p.m. to connect with northbound trains, giving firms more time to respond. The North Carolina Supreme Court ordered a new trial for Lee Eldridge 22 son of former County Treasurer F S Eldridge who was convicted of manslaughter for a fatal Dobson area collision. The court ruled the judge erred in instructing the jury and the case will be retried before a Surry County jury. Eldridge previously received eight years then reduced to five. the new hearing could change the outcome. Sheriff Smith reports strong October tax collections and discounts offered in November.
