Citizens of Surry and Stokes counties may tour the Surry Stokes Professional Building in Pilot Mountain on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Dr H C Newsome and Dr Marjorie Matthews will greet visitors along with directors as two occupied suites and two vacant suites are opened for inspection.

Noted Scout Worker Dies
Betty Jo Snow Medley 32 of Mount Airy route 6 wife of Bobby Medley died Wednesday afternoon after a long illness. A den mother for Cub Pack 5836 she was named Den Mother of the Year in 1966 and received the Scout Training Key. Funeral 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Chapel. burial in Skyline Memory Garden. Survived by her husband two sons her father and a sister.

Mount Airy Board Votes for Federal Grant to Extend Planning
Mount Airy commissioners approved applying for a federal grant to continue Phase I of the Continuing Planning Program for May 72 through May 73. Mayor Beamer noted a county invitation to a joint meeting Monday to discuss common interests. Men Bound Over on Perjury Charges in Dobson Case
Three Mount Airy area men charged with perjury in warrants signed by State Highway Patrolman Kenneth Garaventa had a Tuesday hearing in Surry District Court in Dobson. Bound over to Surry Superior Court for trial, the perjury counts stem from testimony during the August 31 District Court proceeding against Tommy McBride 32 on reckless driving and driving after license revocation. The perjury defendants are McBride John Smith 18 and Calvin Leon Queen 29.

Dobson Board Of Elections To Hear ABC Referendum Dispute
The five member Dobson Board of Elections and legal counsel meet at 10 a.m. in the Agriculture Building to review the September 14 ABC referendum in Surry County. Both wets and drys will be represented. The drys argue the Sept 16 certification showing 104 to 186 in favor of defeat is correct, while the wets say unofficial night results favored approval 186 to 184 before a tally error changed the outcome. The state Elections Board will resolve the dispute after affidavits from all sides.

A Surry Central High School senior has been elected the school’s Holiday Queen. Brenda Whitaker, 17, daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayne Whitaker of Mount Airy route 7, will represent the school at Christmas events in the county. She is a varsity cheerleader, co-editor of the Aquila, and a member of the French Club Monogram Club and National Honor Society.
