Small four by five inch films detect subtle chest conditions, with doctors notified for potential larger films. Exclusions apply to children under six and very ill or chest patients. The program aims to uncover unsuspected diseases such as tuberculosis heart disease bone disease and lung cancer. A fee is charged. about 12 percent of patients screened show some condition.

Printer Leaves Boxwood Monument in Mount Airy Building
An area printer, Fred Johnson of Mount Airy, created a lasting living monument by furnishing and transplanting seventeen English boxwoods to the new Workmen's Federal Savings and Loan Association building on North Main Street at Rawley Avenue. The plants, average 35 years old, were rooted last week with heavy soil balls weighing about 2000 pounds each. Johnson began boxwood work in 1929, later retiring from printing in 1945 to focus on horticulture, earning a reputation for supplying boxwoods to landscapers and even the U. S. Government for Arlington Cemetery plantings. The evergreens require specific soil and timing, maturing slowly and thriving with adequate moisture and periodic fertilization.
