Man Wears POW Bracelet Learns Brother-In-Law Is Vietnam Pilot
Ronald Sands of Pilot Mountain wore a Copper bracelet bearing the name David Hatcher as part of the Voices in Vital America project. He bought it in Winston Salem and learned Hatcher, a Mount Airy native, has been a prisoner of war since May 1966 and is now a lieutenant colonel. Sands plans to keep the bracelet until Hatcher is released and home.

Northwest Production Credit Association opens a 1200 square foot Pilot Mountain office on NC 208 to serve Surry and Stokes counties. A. P. Snow says the branch will provide agricultural and federal land bank loan services with up to 30 year maturities, expanding PCA coverage of ten northwest NC counties. Forty eight animals sold Wednesday at Mount Airy Livestock Market with bids led by top hogs at 27.65 and heavy top at 25. Sows brought 23 to 24.50 as calves topped 54.75 per head and 52.50 for heavy calves. Bulls and steer calves under 300 lbs ran 37 to 56.50, heifer calves 32.50 to 41.50, and steers 300 to 500 lbs 37 to 40 with 1100 lb steers at 26.25 to 34.25. Cows and bulls commanded 16 to 27.25 for canners, 28.50 to 38.50 for bulls under 1000 lbs, and cows with calves 162 to 340 per head.
