A V West of Mount Airy died of a heart attack at 3 a.m. Thursday at age 64. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church Saturday at 11 a.m. with the remains in state from 10 to 11. The Rev R K Redwine will lead services with local clergy assisting. West, born in Dunn North Carolina, came to Mount Airy in 1903 and helped organize the West Hill Co. He was active in church and civic life and helped plan the city’s First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Myrtle Alfred a daughter Verona West two sisters Mrs L A Bethune and Mrs W D Turnage and his numerous business ventures and public service roles.
