A sudden storm hit Mount Airy and nearby regions Saturday afternoon sparing the south area but leaving large hail stones the size of eggs. Residents sheltered as hail lasted about five minutes, with reports of cracked windows and chipped car paint. Agriculturalist George Averelle said crops suffered little damage and locals felt fortunate.

Area Ministers Return From Baptist Confab

Hiatt Takes Case To Superior Court
Mount Airy Junior High School teacher Max Hiatt was found guilty in Recorder's Court of assault on a minor after a two hour trial. Judge H H Llewellyn fined him 50 dollars. Hiatt plans an appeal and thanked supporters.

Boy in Critical Condition After Auto Crash
Five year old Jerry Lee Cave of Mount Airy was hit on Nichols Road near White Plains at about 10 45 am. He suffered a severe skull fracture and other injuries. He was initially treated at Northern Surry Hospital and later transferred to Baptist Hospital, with a tracheotomy performed. Howard Clay Peele of White Plains was the reported driver.

R. C. Samuel, 83, Laid To Rest In High Point
Rites were held Sunday in High Point for R. C. Samuel of Surry County 83, father of Nora Scott of Dobson and Mrs. Artie Cook of Pilot Mountain. He left a wife, a son and three other daughters and was killed Friday in a two-vehicle collision near High Point. He belonged to Salem Fork Christian Church.

The Mountain Park Fire Department battled a wood stump fire near Happy Mill Road off Zephyr Road for 20 minutes using about 1000 gallons of water. The blaze threatened a large wooded area briefly and Fireman Sam Briggs suspected careless smoking as a possible cause.

He explained that when he was home last, she played his guitar, so he sent her one like his.
