Class day Wednesday. seventh grade Thursday. senior play Applesauce Tuesday, admission 50 cents.
In a telephone with Dr. John H. Cook the Greensboro official, N C C W announces a Dobson branch summer school. Registration is set for June 6 and 7 with classes beginning June 9. Supt. E S Hendren and J J Richards urged teachers to arrange attendance.
S. M. Hale and daughter Mrs. E. C. Banner returned from a visit to Kingsport Tennessee. Mrs. Harry Nelms, daughter of Mr. Hale, accompanied them home.
The town of Mount Airy may face a damage suit by Zack Smith after police chased housebreakers. Officers found clothes and a roadster tied to the suspects, along with gas siphoning gear. Howard Combs and Will Wells, an escaped convict, are held on a house breaking charge in bond set at $1,000.
The notice states a tax sale list error included R C Freeman of Dobson. Sheriff Smith confirms Freeman's tax has been paid and his property should be removed from advertised lists.
The disappearance of Grover Hemmings was resolved when his body surfaced in Crystal Lake near Bartow after six months underwater. Hemmings 30, a Vermont stonecutter, left Mount Airy for Bartow quarries and was believed drowned following a car chase with a Frenchman and border officials. His funeral at Flat Rock Baptist Church was held after relatives confirmed the identity and transported the body from Bartow.
A Winston-Salem evangelist Rev Thomas F Pardue faced unproven allegations of attempting to kiss Myrtle Harrison during a Flat Rock Baptist Church revival near Mount Airy. The church deacons publicly stated the charges were false and Pardue denied any improper action acknowledging support from church members and the Harrison family.
James Wagoner an 18 year old from Waynesboro Va. died after misjudging a dive from a cliff into shallow water along the Yadkin River near Crutchfield. He was visiting for a birthday dinner and struck the riverbed fatally breaking his neck. His body was sent to Waynesboro for burial after medical aid arrived too late.
Joseph Dobson longtime local resident dies after paralysis from a stroke suffered Tuesday afternoon last week. He passed away Sunday morning at home, surrounded by family. Born near Copeland, he is survived by his wife Ola Belle Wood and ten children. He worked at Wood Wholesale Grocery Co and was active in politics and business. Interment followed after a service at Copeland Baptist Church.
An ice cream supper will be held on the lawn of the Flat Rock Presbyterian Church next Saturday beginning at 6 o'clock p m. Fried chicken pies cake sandwiches lemonade and home made candy will also be sold. The patronage of the public is solicited.
Rockford School pupils stage an operetta titled Tie Golden Whistle next Monday afternoon May 2 at 3 30 with admission 10c and 25c An evening performance at 7 30 charges 15c and 25c government.
