Mount Airy residents and local industries rallied for a Red Cross blood drive, surpassing the 200 pint quota with 254 units collected and only 33 rejections. Judge Orders Transcript of Marsh Trial Save Costs
The case of Woodrow Marsh, condemned to die for killing Allen Phillips, will be reviewed by Supreme Court judges Buon. Judge J Will Meas who sentenced Marsh ordered the county to pay the transcript costs for the proceedings and evidence from the trial since Marsh cannot afford to defray the expenses.

Paul M Lane 30 Dies At Work At White Plains
Paul M Lane 30 died of a heart attack while plowing a field near his home four miles from Mount Airy and one mile from White Plains. He was a World War II veteran born November 30 1920 in Surry County. Surviving include his widow Ruth Simpson daughter Linda Lane and his parents Porter and Margaret Lane. Funeral at White Plains Baptist Church Friday at 2 50 pm conducted by Rev Ray Billings and Rev John Permar.

VEW Organization Grows by 104 Members in Contest
On April 27 the Veterans of Foreign Wars unit launched a membership drive and by May 5 enrolled 104 new members. The Wildcats led by Dennis Moody edged the Bearcats led by James McNeill by four members and earned a free chicken dinner at 6 30 p m at Veterans Memorial Park. James McNeill and Malcolm Cagle were singled out for bringing in the most new members. The club’s total membership reached 302 foreign veterans.

Carl Williams aged 54 died suddenly of a heart attack at the home of Matt Anderson on Longap Road near Mount Airy. He was born October 2, 1806 in Wilkes County, son of Chap and Jane Williams. Settlement Reached In McMillian Accident Case
In Marion Superior Court Judge J Will Press approved a settlement of 1148 for Sam M McMillian Jr injured when a Mount Airy truck struck him on February 17 1950. The award covered medical bills and fees leaving over half of the amount to hospital and professionals with insurance covering the vehicle.

H. M. Foy retired businessman and newly chosen Grand Master of Mason in North Carolina was honored at Granite Lodge open house in the Masonic Temple Friday night as a portrait of him was unveiled. Dr. Joseph H. Carter delivered the principal address. Foy organed 46 years in Masonry, born March 14, 1884, in Grayson County near Galax, Virginia, and became Mount Airy resident in 1890.

Mrs. W M Johnson sustained a broken wrist after a fall on her back porch on West Lebanon Street. Doctors at Martin Memorial Hospital diagnosed fractures of the ulna and radius near the right wrist. The arm will be splinted for about six weeks to aid healing.
