Students Earn Caps at Martin Memorial Hospital School
Eight student nurses at Martin Memorial Hospital School of Nursing received their caps in a ceremony led by the Director of Nurses. Miss Leah Collins spoke on nursing as a career, Mrs. Bertha Ashby presented caps and Florence Nightingale Lamps, and the class recited the pledge before a closing prayer. A dinner followed in the hospital dining room with a decorated cake bearing the students’ names.

Grady Sutphin of Flat Rock Dies at 47
Grady Sutphin of Flat Rock aged 47, a noted leather goods maker and former Richmond resident, died unexpectedly at his home Friday morning. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Sunday at Flat Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Howard Barham officiating. burial followed at Midkisson. He is survived by his siblings Garnett Sutphin, Elbert Sutphin, Burney Sutphin, and sisters Mrs. William Barber, Mrs. Lacy McMillian, and Mrs. Frank Henaley.
