North Carolina Granite Plans Large Saw Mill and Shed
The North Carolina Granite Corporation began construction of a 170 by 123 foot steel and stone shed to house a new 70 horsepower saw mill capable of cutting slabs from granite blocks. The facility, located near the tracks, will run two shifts with 435 horsepower total motor capacity and about 40,000 watts of lighting. The project aims to reduce building stone costs and expand sales, with a Chicago cemetery shaft being carved from a 115 ton rough block into a 56 foot high final piece weighing 40 tons.

New River Bridge Crossing Authority Granted in Virginia

Flashing fraudster jailed after impersonating lumber firm
Clyde King, a Kentucky man, was arrested this week on check fraud charges and held in jail in default of bond. Investigators from Perry Lumber Co. traced his scheme to obtain goods from local merchants and an automobile from Hennis Motor Co by falsely claiming employment with the timber firm. King was nabbed while in possession of the car and officers believe he planned to flee the country. The car was returned to the Hennis company.
