Surry County Supt Gentry to retire in June
Sam Gentry announced plans to retire as Surry County Schools superintendent on June 30 after 21 years in the post. The 62 year old Thurmond native cited health and doctor advice, as the board named the new middle school under construction in his honor. Members of the Dobson Community Council broke ground Monday for the town's first community building and discussed plans for a nearby community-type park. The one story Georgian style center on Coper and James streets will include a large meeting room, kitchen, bathrooms, storage, and a basement for games and dancing. Funds raised exceed 29,000 with estimates around 80,000 for materials. Hope Valley Inc donated a year of maintenance for the brick.

Pell to Receive All Applications for Surry County Superintendent
