Bandits Attempt To Rob Former Mount Airy Man In Kingsport
B. E. Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest L. Wood, was attacked at his store in Kingsport Tennessee while closing up Friday night. Two men wearing disguises forced him at gunpoint to open the safe and steal his car after beating him and taping his hands and mouth. He sustained a slight scalp cut and is in good condition. Police recovered the vehicle.

Miss Della Frances Smith 49 of Mount Airy Route 1 died Sunday afternoon in a Morganton hospital after a several months illness. Born March 3, 1901 in Sorry County she was the daughter of Joseph and Laura Perkins Smith. Surviving are her mother four brothers Tom Dick Albert and Robert Smith and three sisters Mrs Maggie Riddle Mrs Elmer Chilton and Mrs Coy Midkiff all of Mount Airy Route 1.

Eight Local Scouts Attend Jamboree At Valley Forge
Mount Airy boys from troop 10, led by Outmaster White, travel from Winston Salem to Valley Forge Pa for the Second National Boy Scout Jamboree. Winners of a February through June contest, five boys funded by the troop committee with local citizens aid. two covered half expenses, one paid all. The group left Winston-Salem at 1 am Monday, bound to join over 4700 scouts in an opening ceremony featuring 1100 torches.
