Mother Shoots Daughter's Suitor Before Wedding
Reece Gunnell and Elia Gunnell married at Dobson as details emerged of a shooting by the bride’s mother, Mrs Arby Gunnell, who fired at Reece as he approached the home. The shot missed sharply. Reece was grazed on the scalp but the couple wed and planned to live on Moir Goad’s farm. No charges were filed as the couple wished to drop any prosecution.

No School Board Meeting Scheduled for Monday in Surry County

Sadness fills the city as Mrs Ruohl Pyron dies at Twin City Hospital Winston-Salem after an unsuccessful cancer operation on her 45th birthday. Funeral services are Friday at 11 A M at her Klondike Park home with interment in Elkin cemetery. Father Adler of Mount Airy Catholic Church will officiate. Survived by husband who manages Klondike farm.

30000 Fruit Jars Delivered to Surry Unemployed
Thirty thousand quart fruit jars arrived in the county for John W. Comer welfare officer to distribute to the needy and unemployed. An adjourned coroner's jury session concluded Dave Crawford aged about 60 died of heart failure. The body was found in the woods near the city watershed on the old Fancy Gap road after his family searched from Sunday morning. he had been dead since Friday.

Officials plan a tour of the revised Lowgap road path as the State Highway Commission moves to start work using Federal funds.
