City May Receive 3 New Teachers
The State Board cut the North Carolina teacher load from 32 to 30 pupils per educator. Mount Airy Superintendent L B Pendergraph says exact allotment for next year cannot be set until the state returns the allotment report, but three additional teachers may join city schools. County Superintendent John W Comer notes many schools may gain at least one new teacher while a few may lose staff due to fewer students. Governor Scott approved transferring about 1.7 million dollars from the 1951-52 surplus to the 1952-53 budget to fund roughly 1,000 new teachers added to the system under the reduced load. The state bases teacher staffing on average daily attendance and absences.
