Two hundred men believed trapped and killed after a mine explosion at Hillcrest collieries near Frank Alberta on the Crow’s Nest line. About 600 entered the mine before the blast as relief trains and medical teams rush to the scene amid dense smoke.
Comptroller Williams estimates about 500 million dollars in national banks nationwide could be loaned for farm mortgages under the Federal Reserve Act. With 25 percent of capital and surplus available for farm loans and a 34.5 percent limit of time deposits, banks may extend loans up to five years and 50 percent of farm value as security.

A note from fifteen generals leading a 50 000 strong constitutionalist army renounced Carranza as first chief and pledged to fight Tuerta under Villa only. Villa did not sign the letter. details were suppressed by Saltillo censorship and surfaced with travelers' reports at the border. The message claimed the generals would remain under Villa’s authority and refuse Carranza.
Miss Marion Mable twenty died at her New Rochelle home from diphtheria after eight months of antitoxin experiments. She contracted the disease while working in laboratories of the Polyelinte hospital in New York. Weldon was shot and wounded. Rison was struck with a cane and injured on the head. Weldon’s shoulder wound is described as not serious.
Julius Denow a 45 year old private in the Fourteenth Infantry at Spokane Washington shot himself with an army rifle after being arrested for absence without leave. Denow had seven enlistments and two years to serve before retirement. His nearest relative is his mother Mrs Loulea Denow of Trenton New Jersey. He asked permission to pack blankets before being taken to the guardhouse. He returned to quarters and killed himself.
Frederick Geiser a Fo ley County farmer in Alabama shot and killed his wife then killed himself after reportedly telling authorities he would not be arrested again for wife beating. He and his wife had been separated, later reunited, and Geiser was recently charged again with beating his wife before the murder suicide.

In Dadeville Alabama Johologue Pogue, a wealthy farmer, returns home to find his wife with neighbor A J Wilson. Pogue kills Wilson and is killed by a shotgun blast from a side window. Wilson dies, the wife is fatally wounded, and the scene is described with graphic detail.
