Soil Conservation Service Terracing Progress Near Dobson
During the 1943 44 terracing season the Soil Conservation Service at Dobson staked terrace lines for 194 farmers on 1953 acres. About 126 acres on 21 farms await terracing. 1126 acres have been terraced by 140 farmers with light equipment. Some terraces lack full specifications but guide contour cultivation. Heavy rains raised concerns, yet few terrace failures occurred. Fall efforts aim to enlarge terraces via breaking with a turn plow and V drag to qualify for AAA payments. Sherman Simpson equipment aided 38 farmers on 701 acres. Most terraces should qualify for AAA payments with little extra work.
