Ten young volunteers from North Carolina started a 10 week program across Surry Yadkin and Wilkes counties. Vandals Strike Mount Airy Club Pool
Sandy Hutchens the Mount Airy Country Club lifeguard found the 45 000 gallon pool littered with bottles cans and trash after vandals attacked between 10 30 and 11 p m Monday. A club member saw the pool intact at 10 50 p m but returned to find the garbage can and drink case gone. Drainage began Wednesday with the pool reopening over the weekend.

Mount Airy commissioners accepted the 1965 66 tentative budget totaling 855800 and set a public hearing for July 15 at 730 pm in City Hall. Toast toasts new post office with bids sought
A new Toast post office building is planned with 1 000 square feet of space and a 2 500 square foot paved lot. Bids to supply site and build are due June 25. The owner will lease to the Post Office Department for five years with options for five more. Plans note several other Fifth District post offices recently authorized or built.

Lowgap Landmark Burns To Ground
A 125-year-old frame dwelling on NC 9 near Lowgap burned to ashes in the early hours of Friday. John Farmer Lowe and his wife Ella were awakened by two Proctor Silex employees returning home from work, who saved them as the house was lost. The couple will reside in a trailer on the site while rebuilding. Insurance partially covers the loss.

Three Men Charged With Trespassing In Mount Airy
Three men were jailed in Mount Airy on charges of trespassing and damage to property after allegedly forcing an 82 year old man from his home and sleeping on the premises. George Gwyn reported the event from the Ward's Gap area near the state line. Deputies found F Smith 27 Ronald Smith 23 and Robert E Tolbert 25 at the home early Friday.

Head Start Registration at Flat Rock School Opens
Five mothers attended a one o clock session at Flat Rock School to enroll children in the Head Start program for June and the following eight weeks.
