The historic Allison lynching tree near Mount Airy and Dobson remains, scarred by souvenir hunters and in a highway right of way. Tom Allison, a 25 men forced takings victim, was hanged there in September 1892 after shooting W. H. Brown on Mount Airy’s Main Street. Brown died at once. ex sheriff Haynes and justice Creed witnessed the slaying.

Lightning Strikes Kill Mules in Surry County Barns
A summer storm struck two barns five miles apart in Surry County, killing two pairs of mules. One pair owned by Jim Comer near Dobson died when lightning hit the barn, which remained standing. The other pair, owned by Grover Branch near the Surry line, was killed as the same storm caused a fire in the buildings. A later hailstorm in the area caused additional damage.

Mrs Frank C Poore Passes After Illness at 40
Mrs Frank C Poore of this city died Monday night at Martin Memorial Hospital after an operation for lockjaw and widespread infection. She was 40, married in 1920 to Mr Poore, mother of Keith Colon Iris Esther Olive Judith and Frankie, and survived by her husband two sons, one stepdaughter, parents and siblings. Funeral at Airy Friends Church at 2 30 P M with Rev Seth Hinshew officiating and interment White Plains Cemetery.

Judge E C Bivens will construct a two story colonial home on his orchard property at the Fancy Gap road intersecting Fancy Gap and Old Fancy Gap roads.
