Farm Situation Called Critical Faces Food Shortage
A memorial presented to President by the American Farms Bureau Federation the National Grange and the Farmers Union warns of a critical farm situation. Labor shortages have cut production in parts, many farms lie uncropped and vast land remains ungrazed with high interest rates. They forecast shortages in beef and dairy animals and a wheat shortfall of about 200 000 bushels while world markets stay tight and prices rise. Prompt farm credit legislation and cooperative marketing are urged to avert deeper food shortages and rising living costs.
