The annual fiddlers convention linked to Mount Airy Golden Jubilee unfolds on Saturday with R C Lewellyn as master of ceremonies. Prizes range from 10 to 250 dollars, finals at Graves Building and afternoon preliminaries at the auditorium. Bands from Virginia and North Carolina enter, led by Spangler, Pine Ridge Ramblers, Stokes County Ramblers, and more, with many individuals also competing.

White Sulphur Springs Hotel to Open Saturday
Under joint management Messrs M S Satterwhite and J H Gwyn the Mount Airy White Sulphur Springs Hotel will open to the public next Saturday for the summer season. Professor Edward B. Carroll Dies After Illness
Professor Edward B. Carroll 42 longtime principal of Flat Rock Consolidated School died in Winston-Salem hospital Tuesday afternoon after extended illness. He had taught since 1918 and served in World War I. Survived by wife Anne Terrell and two daughters June and Betty Anne, five brothers and five sisters. Funeral at Mountain View Baptist Church Thursday at 2 PM with friends from King and Pine Rock in attendance.

Danville Considers PWA Power Project At Pinnacles Of Dan
Danville Virginia voters face a loan agreement with the Public Works Administration to develop Dan River power at the Pinnacles of Dan in Patrick County. The city would repay 70 percent of the borrowed funds while 30 percent is a non repayable grant. The project would replace an aging steam plant and keep city control over power and lines. If approved it would spur mountain region development along the Blue Ridge Scenic Parkway. The plan follows a prior rejection about 18 months ago and is under active local campaign by city officials.
