Tornado Devastates Zephyr Texas Leaving Dozens Dead
A massive tornado struck Zephyr in Brown County at 1 a m Sunday, killing 32 and seriously wounding about 50 with many injured. The storm destroyed nearly 50 houses and an entire business block, burned by a lightning strike after the wind swept through residence and commerce areas. Brownwood sent surgeons, nurses, and relief trains, while authorities battled fires and searched debris as survivors sought shelter in cellars.
