Man who started whiskey at eleven recalls convict life
Greensboro July 17 Tom Kirkman aged 74 recalls a life on the road and in convict camps. He began making liquor at 11 to help his family, helped build the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley railroad, and served a light sentence after a late 19th century arrest. He says modern confinement is better and continues to make whiskey as a habit.

Mrs Wm Cassell Dies In Mount Airy
Mrs William Cassell died July 17 after a long illness. The Primitive Baptist funeral was held at her daughter's home Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Interment followed at Oak Dale Cemetery. She is survived by two daughters and three sons. An ice cream supper was planned July 25 at Flat Rock Presbyterian Church with a string band and open invitation. Several local residents visited Greensboro Winston-Salem Washington DC and locally.
