July Fourth Fire Destroys Dobson Home
A Dobson home was gutted in a July Fourth fire while Mr. and Mrs. Thompson and their two children were away. Neighbors and the Dobson Volunteer Fire Department battled flames that consumed four rooms and the interior. Insurance covered the razed structure, and rebuilding is planned.

Little John Rees Recovering After Bike Mishap
Ten year old John Russell Rees of Country Club Road is improving at Northern Surry Hospital after being struck by a car last Thursday south of Statesville. He suffered a broken leg and head lacerations when riding his bicycle from a driveway into the street. No charges were filed against the driver.

The Bonat Company hosted a Reeves Memorial YMCA show featuring Schaeffer and models Sue Anderson Houston Simmons Pearl Laws. Two Surry Men Flee Road Gang Recaptured One Remains At Large
Two Surry County men serving time on the roads fled a road gang Tuesday afternoon in eastern Caldwell County. Marvin Moser of Dobson was recaptured near Tom Dula Road in Wilkes County after briefly eluding Joseph Bruce Peele who remained at large along the Yadkin River. Peele, 33, of Pilot Mountain, was serving 18 months for non support and assault.

Quiet Fourth Observed in Mount Airy as City Basks in Calm
Police Chief Howard Sumner described a still weekend during the three day Fourth of July holiday. Four people were killed just outside Mount Airy, but within the city little excitement occurred. Four auto accidents, minor with no injuries, and 14 arrests were logged from Friday 6 p.m. to Tuesday 6 a.m. Only four warrants involved intoxicans. Other arrests included passing worthless checks and trespass.

Fire damages Mount Calvary church in Combstown
A fire of undetermined origin burned through the roof of Mount Calvary Methodist Church in Combstown Tuesday afternoon. Four-Way Fire Department units fought the blaze, using about 200 gallons of water, and observers expect a new roof. Traffic Patrol aided by diverting funeral-service traffic. Firemen could not determine the cause beyond a roof-origin.

His past roles include four years at Asheboro South Randolph charge and a year as education minister at Grace Methodist in Greensboro.
