Negro History Course Draws Biracial Group
Dr. Robert Cummings led the first Thursday session on Negro history in the Fine Arts Building on North Main Street for about 20 biracial adults. He blended passion with advocacy, tracing Afro American history from Africa to modern America and praising Harriet Beecher Stowe for influencing U S perspectives. The extension division of Surry Community College sponsors the free course, inviting public attendance.

Truck Wrecks Sunday In High Speed Chase
A 22 year old Roger Lee Knott fled from Mount Airy police at night after speeding on South Main Street in a 1966 Ford pickup. He lost control near Banner Street, crashed into a utility pole and a fence at 619 Worth Street, and stopped near a parked car. Knott faced multiple charges including intoxicated driving and speeding. a patrol car was damaged but officers unharmed.

Trio Nabbed After Break-In In Local Home
Deputy Davis said a resident reported three youths entering the unoccupied home of Pearl Samuels. Officers recovered an electric toaster blanket knife watch and other items valued at about $100, charging the trio with breaking and entering larceny and receiving.
