Mount Airy resident Charles Jackson Wampler 35 died in a two car crash on North Main Street near Central United Methodist Church. He worked at Quality Mills nearly 11 years and helped perfect a computer driven sewing machine. The other driver Michael Lee Smith 26 survived with facial cuts and possible head injury. three passengers were injured lightly. Funeral services were held at Grace Moravian Church with burial in Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials preferred to donor's charity.
